Becky Has A Meltdown!

This is one of the walls in my craft room. It is covered with maedeup (Korean knotting) cording and with the way it is set up it is easy for me to decide what color to use in a maedeup project. There is one little (okay, big) problem I've had with this arrangement.

Let me premise this with a description of the wall. It is covered with wallpaper and it is only glued on the edges. I'm not sure if this is the Korean way but it is the way the wallpaper was hung in our apartment prior to our moving in.

I bought self-adhesive plastic hooks which is what I used to hang the cording. It's not the best solution but I thought it would suffice until our return to the U.S. Wrong!

The plastic hooks continue to fall off the wall, randomly throughout the day. I've complained to Curt (hubby) about it and his response was to inform me that if that's the only thing I'm upset about, I'm pretty darn lucky.

So I've been living with this situation for a few months now. It's never the same colors that fall and I spend part of my day picking up cording and resticking the hook to the wall. But something snapped last Friday when EIGHT fell in the course of the day.

Luckily, Curt had a work overnight (team building) event and wasn't going to be home until sometime Saturday. I ranted and raved to the four walls of my apartment. I was not going to take it any more! I'm married to a engineer for goodness sakes. If he can't figure out a solution with limited supplies here in Korea, who can! I know there isn't a Menards or Lowe's to hop on over to and get what we need but still, there must be something we can do! I was mad, I was livid, I was totally ticked off! I don't know if I have ever been this mad since our move but I had let this build up for months.

I had cooled down somewhat when Curt came home around lunchtime but of course, I waited until he had dropped his overnight bag to pummel him with my inability to live like this any more. He got the message and we went to Home Plus to find a permanent solution. Of course, the shelving unit that he chose was out of stock but at least we have a plan now.

This is a picture of the plastic hooks. I am cooled off and only mildly irritated now when I hear a hook hit the floor. The other problem is when the cording falls, it gets tangled and I'm not going to untangle it only to have it happen time and time again.

Now, with all that is going on in the world, if this is all that I have to complain about, I'm pretty lucky. I agree wholeheartedly. I have it pretty good here in South Korea. Curt did NOT want me to blog about this but if I'm going to be honest, I need to blog about the good, bad and ugly as we live our lives here in South Korea.

LOL .... ROFL! Curt didn't want you to blog about it because he's afraid it may reflect poorly on his engineering skills! I would've put some screw in hooks up ages ago!

I love it Becky! I cannot imagine you ranting and raving, but I trust you :) I kept thinking, doesn't 3M have a product you can use? Good luck with your new plans, let us know.

Ah, it's your wallpaper. The sticky hooks won't stick to the wallpaper in my apartment, either. But I used them in previous apartments no problem. We solved the problem by buying a drill...looks like that wouldn't work for you anyway, since you would need so many holes.

Yeah, and I'll echo helena -- nice stash! I don't feel so bad about my yarn stash now!
